Feb 28 - Capable
"If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves." -Thomas Edison
I grew up playing golf, and I was pretty good - but I quit in high school because doing drugs sounded better.
I was a great student, until I learned that getting B's was good enough to get into college.
I was always a gifted kid - super creative, a caring heart, good at sports, organized, and respectful of authority (when authority was looking).
Somewhere along the way, I decided that partying and having fun would be my mantra. And I became quite good at that, too. But it led to nothing but hangovers, wrecked relationships, an empty checking account, and a decade of time I sometimes wish I had back.
Sobriety is teaching me what I'm truly capable of. For one, I'm capable of beating addiction, and that's extremely cool. I've become a runner, despite asthma and depression. I started a business with nothing but passion and the drive to make a difference. I'm truly capable of whatever I set my mind to. It just requires action, patience, and acceptance of the fact that I am not in control.
Most importantly, I'm capable of love and being loved. And you are too.
